CHURCH AT LAODECIA Revelation 3:14-22
III. Sumptuously Swindled – Revelation 3:17 - Because thou
sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and
knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and
naked:
1. Introverted - 17 Because thou sayest, I am rich,
Philippians 2:3
- Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let
each esteem other better than themselves. 4 Look not every man on his own
things, but every man also on the things of others. 5 Let this mind be in you,
which was also in Christ Jesus:
2. Increase - and increased with goods, and have need of
nothing;
Hebrews 13:5
- Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things
as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6 So
that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man
shall do unto me.
3. Ignorance - and knowest not
4. Impoverished - that thou art wretched, and miserable,
and poor, and blind, and naked:
Wretched – Very unfortunate or unhappy, distressed,
dejected, despicable.
Miserable – They are in a constant state of dissatisfaction
and nothing is ever right.
Poor – Lacking Basic essentials
Blind – They can not see the truth, because they are in
darkness!
Ephesians 5:5 - For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor
unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in
the kingdom of Christ and of God. 6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for
because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of
disobedience. 7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them. 8 For ye were sometimes
darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: 9 (For
the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
Naked – without proper clothing, shamed, embarrassed.
Mark 5:2 -
And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs
a man with an unclean spirit, 3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man
could bind him, no, not with chains: 4 Because that he had been often bound with
fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the
fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him. 5 And always, night
and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself
with stones. 6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,…15 And
they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the
legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
