The Secret To The Power of Prayer
Luke 11:1
Luke 11:1 -
And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased,
one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught
his disciples.
Acts 10:9 -
On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter
went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour: 10 And he became very
hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
......17 Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen
should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for
Simon's house, and stood before the gate, 18 And called, and asked whether
Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.19 While Peter thought on the
vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee. 20 Arise
therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have
sent them. 21 Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from
Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore
ye are come? 22 And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that
feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned
from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of
thee. 23 Then called he them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went
away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him. 24 And the
morrow after they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had
called together his kinsmen and near friends. 25 And as Peter was coming in,
Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him. 26 But Peter
took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man. 27 And as he talked with
him, he went in, and found many that were come together. 28 And he said unto
them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep
company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I
should not call any man common or unclean. 29 Therefore came I unto you without
gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have
sent for me? 30 And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour;
and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me
in bright clothing, 31 And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms
are had in remembrance in the sight of God. 32 Send therefore to Joppa, and call
hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a
tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee. 33
Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art
come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that
are commanded thee of God.
I. Confidence in God's Will - I
John 5:14
- And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if
we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he
hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired
of him.
Psalms 143:10
- Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into
the land of uprightness.
1 Peter 4:2
- That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts
of men, but to the will of God.
1 Peter 2:15
- For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the
ignorance of foolish men:
Hebrews 13:21
- Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which
is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever
and ever. Amen.
Colossians 4:12
- Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always
labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete
in all the will of God. 13 For I bear him record, that he hath a great zeal for
you, and them that are in Laodicea, and them in Hierapolis.
1 Peter 2:6
- Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief
corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be
confounded.
John 14:12 -
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do
shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my
Father.
Matthew 21:22
- And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall
receive.
II. Calling In Jesus Name -
John 14:12
- Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me,
the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do;
because I go unto my Father. 13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that
will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If ye shall ask any
thing in my name, I will do it.
James 5:14 -
Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them
pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15 And the prayer
of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have
committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. 16 Confess your faults one to
another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent
prayer of a righteous man availeth much. 17 Elias was a man subject to like
passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it
rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. 18 And he
prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
Acts 4:24 -
And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and
said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and
all that in them is: ......29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and
grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, 30 By
stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by
the name of thy holy child Jesus. 31 And when they had prayed, the place was
shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the
Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
Now that we know his will and we are confident in him, and
now we are calling in Jesus name, how to we proceed forward?! You keep on
praying!
III. Comfort in the Holy Spirit -
Romans 8:24
- For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not
hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? 25 But if we hope for that
we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. 26 Likewise the Spirit also
helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought:
but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be
uttered.
John 14:16 -
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may
abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot
receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he
dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I
will come to you.
Acts 9:31 -
Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and
were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the
Holy Ghost, were multiplied.
IV. Consistency in Faith -
James 1:5
- If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth
to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. 6 But let
him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the
sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7 For let not that man think that he shall
receive any thing of the Lord.
Romans 10:10
- For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness;
Mark 11:24 -
Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe
that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
James 4:3 -
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your
lusts.
John 16:23 -
And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you,
Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. 24 Hitherto
have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may
be full.
Psalms 30:3
- O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive,
that I should not go down to the pit. 4 Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his,
and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. 5 For his anger endureth but
a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh
in the morning. 6 And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved.
